The countdown has begun for World Cup winner to have its birth. For
most of soccer fans around the world, there are 3 things that no fans
can do without at this very moment: a wide-screen TV, a vuvuzela and
one of those jerseys for favorite teams.
This year the uniforms for many national teams have one thing in
common -- they are green. While South Africa, the host of this year’s
World Cup, shows its care for the environment by creating eco-friendly
marketing and stadiums, many national soccer teams are going green by
putting on jerseys made from recycled PET bottles. 9 out of 32 teams,
including the Netherlands, Portugal, US, South Korea, Australia, New
Zealand, Serbia, Slovakia and Brazil, are wearing jerseys made from
recycled polyester that came from Taiwan. The most environmentally
responsible and technologically advanced kits in football history has
made Taiwan one of the top choices to go for green textile
manufacturing.
Taiwan’s textile industry has been committed for a decade to the
development of yarns and fibers made from discarded plastic bottles.
Advanced technologies and comprehensive vertical/horizontal
integration add to its expertise. Comfortable and stylish as seen on
the South African fields, the eco friendly jerseys have drawn
attention from all over the world. At TITAS this year, it is expected
that more international brands for outdoor gears will come for these
green and functional materials and products.
TITAS 2010 will be held from October 13-15 at Hall 1 of Taipei World
Trade Center. Eco, Tech, Style is the theme for this year’s event.
Participation is confirmed from Formosa Chemicals & Fibre, Formosa
Taffeta, Far Eastern New Century, Lealea Group, Nan Ya, New Wide, Hoyu,
Fulltide and Southern Taiwan Textile
Research Alliance (STTRA). The
latest innovative inventions on eco-friendly and functional textiles
will be presented, together with seminars on advanced technological
development.
